The message of the Cross of Christ tells us to go through the middle of our various pains, struggles and difficulties to find freedom and new life.
How many times do we plaster a smile on our face day after day – pretending that everything is wonderful? We bottle up our anxiety, grief, depression, etc. rather than facing it head on. The truth is: We cannot cover up our challenges; we cannot ignore them; we cannot get away with going around them. The only way to get free is to face our issues honestly.
In this quest, it helps to have at least one person who knows our “real” self – someone who listens without judgement, loves us, and encourages us to continue our journey. There are no magic solutions. By patiently taking one step and then another and then another each day, we make progress. We KNOW we’re making progress because we can see it as we look back toward where we were some time ago.
So let us avoid the temptation to run, to hide, to pretend. Instead, let us allow ourselves to feel whatever we most fear – and thereby find the new life that’s waiting for us.
