Six years ago, I attended a high school winter holiday concert where “O Holy Night” was performed by the choir along with a senior male and a senior female soloist. The exquisite performance captivated every bit of my attention. At one point, the two soloists glanced at each other at exactly the same moment. It was a “look” I have never forgotten. I’d call it a holy glance. There was nothing lustful or demanding in the immediacy of the glance. Although it was very brief, the look they gave each other said:
“I see you. I appreciate you. I respect you. I love you.”
God gazes upon each one of us like this all the time. But whether we know that or not, it sure is powerful and healing when a human being looks at us in this way. No strings attached. It seems to be a rare experience.
My spirit soars when I am seen, appreciated, respected, and loved for who I am.
